Kate Middleton ‘has literary heritage’

KATE MIDDLETON  TO MARRY PRINCE WILLIAM

The proposed official announcement should be coming shortly (June of 2010) and the expected wedding date to be in the year 2012.  Will Kate Middleton be scrutinized, followed, harrassed, ‘put on a pedestal’ like Lady Diana?  Lady Diana was great, I’m sure we’ll hear her name endlessly in preparation for Kate and William’s  proposed royal wedding.

 A quote from CBS News:

“If William and Kate get their way, when and if they do marry, I don’t think it will be as huge and event as Charles and Diana. We all can remember back to ’81 to those incredible images of the princess stepping out of her carriage, the dress that went on with a train for meters and meters. I understand that William and Kate – if they do get married – want a smaller, less public ceremony. But of course, it will be a state occasion of sorts – exactly how big, we’ll have to wait and see.”

As of right now the proposed engagement is speculation, but the US and British News is ‘on top of it’ as soon as official word comes in, we’ll know.

Kate Middleton’s life will change forever, the college sweetheart of Prince William for 7 yrs. (on and off), will forever more be in the spotlight.  There will be a paparazzi frenzy and media news that will encompass the world.

Just among some of the things I found,(different author’s, same website, Top News.in) are:

  • A book has been written by Claudia Joseph, “Kate Middleton:  Princess in Waiting”
  • Kate’s great great great grandfather was a prisoner at UK’s Holloway Prison. (Joshi Mohit, Top News).
  • Kate’s face has been seen on a family brochure selling princess theme products (Joshi Mohit, Top News).
  • Kate is allergic to horses, this was found out by author, Kathy Lette, while doing an interview with Kate for Reader’s Digest.
  • Kate has ‘literary heritage (Kiran Pahwah, Top News).

Quote from Top News.in:  “London, Apr 24: Kate Middleton, touted as the royal bride-in-waiting, traces her lineage to the literary world, according to a new book. *(The book reference is by author, Claudia Joseph).

Prince William’s famous girlfriend is not only a distant cousin of the late children’s author Beatrix Potter, but is also a long-lost relative of ‘Swallows And Amazons’ creator Arthur Ransome”  (Citation, Top News Kiran Pawha).

It has only just begun, I hope Kate is ready!!

The Palin Women

Sarah and Bristol  Palin – Big Media News

What’s the attraction with Sarah Palin?  Why is she always BIG media news?

The public loves her, granted she was running for vice-president, but that is old news and she is still all over the media

.

She is a mom, a grandmother, a wife, a former Governor and her daughter is a teenage single mom.  Her daughter, Bristol,  has her own television commercial stating that being a single teenage mom is not easy, and that she has been fortunate because she has her family.  Sarah Palin is pro-life, has five children, and is big on family values.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/sarah-palin

Well, Sarah Palin is 44, attractive, personable, raises a child that is mongoloid, whats not to like?  Tina Fey has made a good living off of her, I didn’t know who Tina Fey was until she began imitating Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin has been on Fox News, CNN, David Letterman (I’m sure we all know about that), ET, and other news and entertainment news media.

The Palin women obviously know how to use the media to meet their current and future goals.

Bristol Palin’s TV ad on abstinence received a lot of blogs with criticism and praise, the criticism was on the fact that her message was, ‘do as I say, not as I do” and then she was praised for the fact that she does have experience as a single mom.  The TV ad portrays Bristol as a ‘put together’ mom in a comfortable environment.  Then the ad portrays her as a single, tired, not ‘put together’ mom in a less than comfortable environment, so basically, if you are less fortunate be careful as it is tough on your own.

Jody ‘Babydol’ Gibson

Joy Behar has a talk show that is on HLN at 8:00 pm.  This particular episode speaks of the book, Bad Boys, Bad Girls’.  One of the guests on the show was Jody ‘Babydol’ Gibson who is a former Hollywood madam.  The topic of conversation on this show is about extramarital affairs.  The ‘other women are considered ‘skanettes’ or ‘bottle girls’ or ‘half a hooker’.  These terms  have there own particular meanings.

The conversation included talks about the mistress’ of Tiger Woods and Jesse (Sandra Bullock’s husband).  Theses women have gained fame over their affairs, so much for loving the husband, 1st book deal and all of a sudden there a victim.

Per,  the panel, the ‘Madonna-whore complex’  is a not conclusive in ‘pop culture research’.  The panel of women think that there should be an open line of communication between husband and wife, so he can ask the wife for things that he would go to the other woman for.  Sounds like a ‘huge’ excuse to allow for the infidelity, he couldn’t communicate to his wife.  Are people no longer responsible for there action?  The consequence seems to be ‘sex rehab’.    Is this talk show allowing for people to make further excuses?

Jody Babydol Gibson
HOPEFULLY< this picture of Jody Gibson comes through.  If not it was found on Jody Gibson, facebook page.  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jody-Babydol-Gibson/72644053164

So tell me what is her reason for being on facebook?  Social networking? “Jody Gibson (nicknamed “Babydol”) is a former madam, known in the media as the Hollywood Super Madam. She was convicted in 2000 and subsequently wrote a book about her experiences.”  (Wikipedea)

“Gibson has appeared as a guest on Larry King Live, Geraldo at Large, Glenn Beck, The Today Show, The Lineup, The Big Story, Court TV, Showbiz Tonight, Inside Edition, Tyra Banks, Chelsea Lately, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Howard Stern, and Rick Dees.”(Wikipedia)

  • EBSCOhost: THE POLITICS OF FARRAH'S BODY: THE FEMALE ICON AS CULTURAL EMBODIMENT

For some reason I am focused on hair and nails, the ‘wannabe’  in me.  I would love to send a photo of Farrah Fawcett and her famous ‘hair’, needless to say I have been compromised in my ability to send photos.  Thankfully, we are probably all familiar with her hair, smile, sexuality, relationships, and most unfortunately her premature death.

As I have been researching Farrah Fawcett in comparison to Marilyn Monroe and Paris Hilton, I have learned that Farrah is more than a sexual icon of pop culture but a very ‘transitional figure’.  She pulls together a lot of the other topics that I have talked about.  An attractive female detective (which we know to be unrealistic) but it makes for good TV and better ratings.  Her character portrayed an image (Charlie’s Angels, 1970’s) of an independent, career woman at a time when women were going through the sexual revolution and living in a post-feministic society.

Most interestingly, there are scholarly journals that capture the novelty of her alluring beauty and the politics of her femininity (I think politics and sexuality when Marilyn Monroe sang, Happy Birthday!)

So in my opinion Farrah is not only notorious for her beauty but I believe she captured a new revolutionary concept for women.

The article that I researched states that Farrah’s time of success was post-feminism and during the sexual revolution.  The article also states that the role Farrah played on, ‘Charlie’s Angel’s’ not only made her famous because of her great looks but the character was of a single, successful, career-oriented and independent woman.  In the 1970’s this type of woman was not only a motivator for younger women but a new way of life for women, unlike Marilyn Monroe, who’s fame existed not much earlier.  (The Politics of Farrah’s Body:  The Female Icon as Cultural Embodiment).

To marry or not to marry, that is the question

    Never married:

Shows like Entertainment Tonight always give us the love story or triangles of famous people, this week it is Sandra Bullock and her ‘wandering husband’.  The last case of infidelity was Tiger Woods.  The media favors romance, love and relationships, infidelity, possible affairs and anything related to love and sex.  I personally, never heard of so many people going to therapy for sex addiction.  I guess sex addiction is the new ‘out’ for infidelity, after all how can you hold it against a person if they are ‘sick’.

The media also is responsible for contributing to an unmarried woman creating a stigma. For instance, George Clooney is an eligible bachelor but you don’t usually hear of an eligible bachelorette, in a positive light. (Except for the reality show).

Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush are constantly being taunted as to when they will marry.  Jennifer Aniston and any new love interest that she may have is always scrutinized wondering if it will lead to marriage.

This stigma is not just attached to the famous unmarried woman; it is attached to the ‘regular person’.  Then again, if the populations of women base their own personal stories on these famous women, they too, will want what they have.

I applaud the woman who does not marry because she chooses not to. Better that than to be in a situation that could be unfavorable. Normally, when I find research relevant to a topic I will pick and choose parts of it to cut and paste.  In this case, the research is to be published in the ‘Journal of Family Issues’ and I really feel that it is important to include the entire script.  The article reinforces the perception that people have if a woman is not married over a certain age, this seems to hold true for the ‘regular person’ and the starlet.

Never-Married Women Face Social Stigma, Researchers Find

ScienceDaily (Mar. 23, 2010) — In 2009, approximately 40 percent of adults were single, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In a new study a University of Missouri researcher examined the familial and societal messages given to women who are not married by their mid-30’s. Although the number of single women has increased, the stigma associated with being single at that age has not diminished, according to the women in this study.

“We found that never-married women’s social environments are characterized by pressure to conform to the conventional life pathway,” said Larry Ganong, co-chair of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. “This pressure was manifested in women feeling highly visible and invisible. Heightened visibility came from feelings of exposure and invisibility came from assumptions made by others.”

Ganong and Elizabeth Sharp, associate professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Texas Tech University, conducted 32 interviews with middle-class, never-married women who felt that considerable attention was directed at them because of their age and single status. They felt heightened visibility in situations such as bouquet tosses at weddings. These events brought about unwanted, intrusive questions. Feeling invisible, on the other hand, was likely when others made assumptions that they were married and had children or when they had to justify their singlehood. These interactions made them feel that their actual lives weren’t important or went unnoticed.

Specifically, single women’s social worlds include:

Awareness of shifting reality as they become older; for example, the shrinking pool of eligible men and increased pregnancy risks.

Reminders that they are on different life paths than most women when others inquire about their single status and during events, including social gatherings and weddings.

Feelings of insecurity and displacement in their families of origin when parents and siblings remark about their singlehood and make jokes or rude comments.

The visibility and invisibility factors were impacted by age, according to Ganong. The mid-20’s through mid-30’s is a time of intense contemplation and concern for single women regarding their future family trajectories. Women older than 35 tend to be content with being single and don’t express as much dissatisfaction as do younger women. Women ages 25-35 felt the most stigma, which may be attributed to the fact that being single is more acceptable before age 25. After reaching that age, they feel more scrutinized by friends, family members and others.

“Mainstream media also enforce these ideas,” Ganong said. “For example, shows like ‘Sex and the City,’ which portray female protagonists who are hyper-focused on finding men, and end with the majority of those characters getting married, are popular.”

    Ganong has a joint appointment in the MU Sinclair School of Nursing. The study will be published in the Journal of Family Issues.}

    Women Detectives

As I was searching for women detectives I came across an old photo of Honey West.  As this site was discussing TV detectives there are very few women that filled this category.  Angela Landsbury was one of the women, otherwise it was male dominated.

Now we have a lot of shows with female detectives, Law and Order, Cold Case, Castle (one of my favorites), the Mentalist among others.  It seemed to start with Charlie’s Angels.

The women give off a sense of confidence and are feminine in a conservative way.  There dress code is tailored but does allude to some sort of sexual innuendos.

I don’t know about the teenage girls, but these shows have captured my attention.  Maybe they are governed toward the middle age woman who wants the self confidence and strength that is portrayed.  The teenage girls seem to be geared toward the movie Twilight and similar movies and TV shows that have romance and thrill.

The Museum of Broadcast Communications gives a long list of detective shows, a male dominated industry:  Mannix, Harry O., Police Story, Cannon, The Fugitive and there are many more.  All the shows that I recall were male dominated but there was usually a beautiful sidekick or co-star.  Tyne Daly was another that opened the market to female detectives.  You can really see how women in these shows have evolved.

    10-12 yr. old girl hairstyles

It occurred to me as I am trying to figure out how to blog and searching on ways to do this, I keep encountering pop-ups aimed at girls.  I guess I didn’t realize how many advertisements there were.

I wondered if I should write about this as I originally thought it was not relevant to my final project idea and then I realized that the women in my final project were also girls once and subjected to advertising, of some sort, and perhaps that is one of the reasons they sought out fame.

Hair is big, I am finding that there is heavy advertising on product, styles and the people that advertise them are obviously attractive and have great hair.

For instance:  Hairstyles for girls between 10-12 yrs old.

    http://www.beauty-and-the-bath.com/girls-twist-hairstyle.html

I couldn’t believe that I found a site specifically for 10-12 yr old girl hairstyles.  Of course, as we know this is all governed around economics.  Sales for the business’ and beauty for the purchaser or their mother.  This made me think of the child beauty contests and mothers living through their daughters, or am I wrong?  We readily use that expression if a boy is encouraged to go into football by his father.
